Hvorostovsky posthumously nominated for GRAMMY

The artist was honored in the field of “Best Opera Recording” for his performance of Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”

NEW YORK, December 7. /TASS Corr. Igor Borisenko/. Russian opera singer Dmitri Hvorostovsky, who passed away in November 2017, along with conductor Constantine Orbelian, were named on Friday as nominees for the GRAMMY Award in the field of “Best Opera Recording” for their performance of Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” This award is presented to the conductor, principal soloist(s), and album producer(s).

In late 2016, as a result of complications from illness, Hvorostovsky stopped performing on the operatic stage, but did not end his concert work. On November 22, 2017, Hvorostovsky died in London aged 55.

In 2017, Hvorostovsky and Orbelian were nominated for the GRAMMY in the field of “Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.”

In 2018, the other nominees for “Best Opera Recording” are John Adams (“Adams: Doctor Atomic”), Michael Christie (“Bates: The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs”), Christophe Rousset (“Lully: Alceste”), and Sebastian Weigle (“Strauss, R.: Der Rosenkavalier”).

Additionally, Vladimir Gorbik, director of the male choir at the Metochion Church of Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, is among the GRAMMY nominees in the field of “Best Choral Performance” for his album “Chesnokov: Teach Me Thy Statutes”, performed by the male choir of the Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music (“PaTRAM”) Institute. Also nominated in the same field are: Steven Fox, conductor of The Clarion Choir; Donald Nally, conductor of The Crossing; Mariss Jansons, conductor of Symphonieorchester Des Bayerischen Rundfunks; and Matthew Guard, conductor of Skylark.

The 61st GRAMMY Awards Ceremony will be held on February 10, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. The event will take place at the STAPLES Sports and Entertainment Center.
